The application incorporates the functions previously available in the NPS Metadata Tools Extension for ArcGIS developed by the NPS Midwest Region GIS Support Office. The application is intended to be the primary editor for metadata that will be uploaded to the NR-GIS Data Store. The NPS Metadata Tools and Editor application integrates with the NR-GIS Data Store information system by producing XML metadata based on the NPS Metadata Profile. This XML metadata file can then be uploaded to the NR-GIS Metadata and Data Store application. Metadata editing is done with editing stylesheets that transform a standard XML metadata file into an editable record. The initial editing functions include those elements required for upload to the NR-GIS Data Store (the NPS_Basic_Edit stylesheet) and Biological Profile metadata elements (the NPS_BioProfile_Edit stylesheet). NPS Metadata Authoring Guidance Example NPS Profile Metadata Templates (available from the NR-GIS Data Store help links) The Tools and Editor have been tested and work with ArcGIS versions 8.3 and 9.0 (with service pack 3) The installation must be run with an account with administrator privileges Before running the install, CLOSE all ArcGIS programs and uninstall any previous version of the NPS Metadata Tools Extension and/or any beta versions of the NPS Metadata Tools and Editor. Additionally, Windows 2000 requires Service Pack 4 to be installed. The extension has been tested with Windows XP Service Pack 2.
